Last July 21st, the Biodiversity Foundation participated in the I Workshop on Strategies for Planning and Conservation of Marine Resources in the Canary Islands within the framework of the INDEMARES project.

The purpose of this event was to gather all of the professionals in the area of marine conservation (researchers, managers, private companies and other groups) together to share knowledge and methodologies in the various fields involved in the conservation of the marine environment in the Canary Islands. The objective was to look for applicable solutions to manage its resources in a sustainable manner.

Ignacio Torres, director of the INDEMARES project, presented the different objectives and actions that are part of the project, emphasizing the research campaigns that will take place in the Canary Islands, in the study areas in Banco de la Concepción, and the Fuerteventura-Grand Canary Area. The investigative work that the Spanish Oceanographic Institute (IEO) and the Society for the Study of Cetaceans in the Canary Archipelago will carry out was highlighted.
